7th Grade all day
Well I had 4 classes today instead of the usual 2. I taught all classes in the 7th grade in half an hour blocks from 10am - 1pm with little to no break. That's tough I'll tell you. It's tough because first, they are all 7th grade girls and second because I had to keep up the energy to get through the classes. I think 75% of the classes went well and smoothly. Which was good that the times it was good was when it really counted too. I mean for the my boss's homeroom class. The one that wasn't good wasn't prepared so I couldn't do the thing according to my plan, and it ended up being a waste of time. And they didn't care either.
They are considered to be the low class, and I was speaking too fast for them as I found out after the class. But that's something I'll have to work on later. The activity was a flash card recall. It was a dictation game to check for understanding. I called out a card and they had to bring it up to me. Sounds simple enough, but it got really intense because everyone wants to win, and how scary these little girls can be when they get excited. I'm glad I had to chance to prove I could do it, and I'm glad that things sort of went my way.
Overall, it wasn't a horrible experience and I learned a lot in the process. Although I know there is much more to learn that I still haven't. So I will have to start making the lesson plans for the 8th graders in January so things will be optimal when I teach them. I feel bad for the teachers because they still have school tomorrow Sunday. The school will have an Open School to advertise to elementary students and parents we will have new students next year.
