Setsubun Festival - The coming of the spring season

Tonight is the annual festival of the vernal equinox. It’s the day right before the spring season, even though I had heard that February was the coldest month of the year. It’s like their groundhog’s day. Well, in America we like to gather around the TV and watch a groundhog tell us our future and how much horrible weather that we still have left before we can all blossom into the spring season. But in Japan, they have a more straightforward approach. They take beans and throw it at a devil. That’s right, it’s the bean throwing holiday, where everyone takes turns to throw beans at dad wearing a devil mask and run around their house. I really am looking forward to seeing this. I heard that people do this after dinner, so I will be out and about to witness this. I’m sure it will be quite an interesting affair. I will try to get some photos and videos, but it might be dark then. But let’s see what I could do.

I actually couldn’t get to see any bean throwing. I guess they don’t do it around here. At least not that I found. I guess I’ll have to try again next year. This time, I’ll have to be more ready to go out and hunt them down, since I won’t have a shot to see it again after that. But for the most part of the day, I just stayed at home. I did go pick up some gas for my heater and went to the grocery store to stock up on my water supply. So it wasn’t a complete waste of a day, although it was pretty close to it. I just wasted another day in front of my computer. But at least, I was able to receive a package today. It was from my sister, and the last package I suppose. Still a little incomplete, but what could I do about it. I just got my books so I could entertain myself on the long train rides to everywhere. Most of it is for work, which is something that would be incredibly helpful and others are just for personal reading. I’m going to try to get back on the old track with all my reading for the mind. It’s some stimulating materials and such. I also got some flashlights and a new neckpiece for the upcoming Chinese New Year. It’s always nice to get some things in the mail.
