Yoke meeting and a Garlic Dinner
Today, I was able to sleep in late. I was really surprised that I was able to since the time I woke up, it was already getting really hot. I didn’t really sleep in that late, only till around 9am. Then I started to get ready to do my Sunday routine. But this Sunday was a bit warmer than other Sundays, so I was a bit slower to do things.
I jumped right on the computer to check e-mail and other stuff and just got stuck there for a little while. By the time 10am rolled around, then I really started to get ready to hang my futon and was about to go do laundry, but never got around to that. I just took it easy for a little while, and then got dressed to go to the YOKE meeting.
The meeting today was to discuss what we are planning to do when the San Diego delegates come in November. We are really starting to get the ball rolling since that’s really only 4 meetings away. We usually only meet once a month to take care of these things, but I think that when the time nears, we will have to meet more. They have also decided the name of the youth division of their organization. They will now be known as the Yokohama Red Shoes Association.
I have to start a new paragraph to explain it. In Yamashita Park, there is a statue of a young girl with Red Shoes. The girl was left behind by her parents and was taken to an orphanage. An American family came and adopted her and took her to America. The statue symbolizes the friendship between the United States and Japan. The story ends here because no one knows what happened to the little girl. But KH, wants to put an ending that she was happy and because of the situation, the strength between the two countries is much stronger. Since we are sister-cities, the ties are already strong and will only continue to become better. So I thought that was pretty cool.
I also discovered many other things that I will need to pay attention to for the coming months. I will help the host family group, as well as the visiting the social services group. I really want to help with the symposium too, but I’m not sure what my schedule will have for me in November. That will be a busy time for me at work, so I might not even be able to be part of it at all, but I’m sure I’ll manage to squeeze some time into it. I always have.
After that, EK and I went to the famous Garlic Restaurant in Yokohama. The food wasn’t too bad, just garlicky; but what else would you expect? I had a rice dish with a Vietnamese styled spring roll, and EK had a Korean Bimbibap with a salad. He said that it was pretty good. Mine was just ok, nothing too fancy or anything I could really be happy about.
After that we took a walk around Yokohama. We walked all over the place, from Sakuragicho station to Yokohama station. He wanted to buy something from Yodabashi camera, so that’s where we went. I looked at some new cell phones, but they don’t have anything that looks good, so I won’t buy at this time. I hope that they make something decent so that I could buy a new cell phone. I’ve been meaning to for a long time now. After that, I got ice cream from Royal Sweet Vanilla shop in the Takashiyamaya department store. It was pretty good, but EK thought it was ok. I enjoyed it, probably because it was just ice cream and I’ve been craving for some ice cream lately. So at the end of the day I was happy. Then we went our separate ways and I went back home. It cooled down a lot so that was great too. I learned today that one of my friends from High school is in Japan now. I highly doubt that I’d be able to see her, but I think that it’s good for her to visit. It sounds like she’s having fun and already has gone to the clubbing scene in Roppongi, which is something that took me about a year to do.
