Canada Day
This was a long Friday, but a pleasant one indeed. I had checked the forecast for the day and it said that it wouldn’t rain, but as I left my house today, I thought that I should just carry my umbrella just in case. I was right about the weather because it started to rain today. It wasn’t that bad or even that much, but it was enough to get the ground wet.
The first class I had today was with 11th grade ran. They were pretty good because they were able to do the assignment I gave them to do. Then we listened to the Have you been rap. Remember this assignment was to make a sentence with different vocabulary that I had on a list. They were in groups and each student needed to use a different vocabulary word. It’s a little hard, but I believed that they could do it, which in fact, they could.
The second class was great. I was shocked at how involved this 11th grade class was. They expanded on what I wanted them to do, and actually made it harder for themselves. Not only could they do it, they did it well and impressed the hell out of me. I was having such a great day at this point.
The third class was with the 7th grade ran. It was just ordinary and nothing really too special about it. It was the last of the semester, but that was it. We talked about the months of the year and seasons.
The fourth period class was getting on all the teachers’ nerves. We were losing our patience and it was in the first few minutes that this happened. They just didn’t feel like learning much today. That was a shame I believe.
The fifth period class was with 10th grade yuri. I feel like I have failed them. At the beginning of the semester I was teaching them and they were very interested in learning English. But as of lately and this topic in particular, they seem dead and uninterested. They had their test today and it was miserable. They didn’t try and it showed. They did well on the midterm so it would work in their favor because the final wasn’t good at all, but was on a different scoring chart.
The last class of the day was with the 7th graders fuji. They did pretty good today. We missed a class last week because of a schedule change so they were a bit behind. We covered the months of the year today. We did a little activity about asking for birthdays and did that activity. After we finished that we had them arrange the months of the year with cards that we have.
After school, I had a meeting for Okinawa. I’m really starting to get excited by it. It’s really getting close now and it’s important to get some information about it. There are only 5 teachers going so I’m surprised that I’m one of them since we are going with 7th graders and none of them really know English. Actually I’m the only person who knows English, but I’m confident in my Japanese. I understood a lot of things that were spoken at the orientation meeting today. So I think that will be ok.
