Loss of Internet
Today, I had to get up at 10am because it was too hot again. It’s weird when you get up and you’re all sweaty. It’s a nasty feeling.
I went on the computer like usual, but today was a bit different because I had my internet connection disconnected. I was trying to play games on my computer, but I have many troubles with that too.
Since my CD-RW drive is not working either, I couldn’t even do that. So I ended up playing the games that came with the computer. I have realized that I only use this computer only for the internet. There isn’t another reason for me having this laptop other than that. I was working on some things for my class today. I’m making a vocabulary sheet for the students and going to start by having them do some composing and being more creative rather than me shoving a predetermined dialogue in their minds. I think that they’ve got to start using what they have in order for us to be able to build anything upon it. I know that the only way to have language acquired is to use it.
After just sitting at the computer, I decided to check my computer to see if there are any spyware or viruses that could be disrupting my connection. I used the Spybot search and destroy tool and then the Lavasoft one after it. It only turned up one infected file, which actually belonged to Microsoft. Damn them bastards. So I got rid of that file since I don’t trust them anyways and then I ran two online virus scans just to be sure. It only turned up one more spyware file, which came from a cookie on my computer. So I got rid of that. It took a long time, so while that was happening I was just updating my xanga entries. Usually at night, I only write down a brief outline of what I did during the day so that I could fill in the rest at a later time. This is not because I’m lazy, but rather because usually when I’m writing this at night, I’m tired as hell and about to pass out. Because if I’m going to write something down, it would be better just to write it all down so I wouldn’t have to come back to it again. That becomes very tiring and that’s how I fall behind.
After that, I was starting to get real hungry. I cracked open a gift that I bought myself from Okinawa and started to chow down, but I only ate a little because I know that it would better for me to go out and eat something that I haven’t eaten before. As I was getting ready to go out, I realized that I hadn’t paid a bill yet. It’s now about 5 days late, so I decided to go to an outlet of FedEx Kinkos to pay the bill. After walking to the station and then taking the train for about 30 minutes to walk about another 15 minutes, it turns out that they don’t accept payments at that center; which really bummed me out because that means I have to do take care of it tomorrow, and walk around when it’s scorching hot. But that’s how it goes, I guess.
So after that I was just walking around the Yokohama station area to see what’s there to eat around there. I walked around a lot and covered a lot of ground, but I didn’t see anything that I wanted to eat. There are a lot of ramen places, but I didn’t think that it would be enough for me and besides it’s a hot day, and I don’t want to be eating ramen when I was hot from walking.
I started back towards the station and went to an area of Yokohama station that I haven’t been to before. I went to a Chinese food place last week and decided that I would go in that general direction, but the opposite way. I found this nice little Vietnamese restaurant. It’s only the 2nd one I’ve found in Japan, so I definitely had to try it out. It’s called Nha Viet Nam. It was delicious, but it had to have been for the price I was paying for it. It is located at the B1 level of the Joinus shopping center. First of all, they charge 300 yen, just to go in. I had ordered Pho Bo, which is just meat and vegetables with rice noodles. It was pretty good for being from a Japanese storefront. Much better than the last place I went to, but the price for it was 950 yen. Then I ordered a Mango juice drink, which costs 400 yen. But the total ended up being 1350 yen, which I think they forgot to add the 300 yen cover charge. I didn’t care and probably will go back once in awhile since it was big enough to make me full and they have a large assortment of foods. I’ll probably take my family here when they come this winter, it was nice even though everyone was sitting at a bar type of table.
After dinner, which was around 9:30pm, I started on my way back home. I didn’t get home till around 10:30pm and was a bit tired. I think I need to be eating a lot more since I think I’m losing a lot of energy just sitting at home and having the heat kill me. So I’ve got to get my energy, but I’ve got to cut the fat out of my life too. That’s a tough balance. I think I’m going to go to bed early tonight because I have to get up early tomorrow to pay the bill and go to Hachioji, which will be my first trip there. I finally got my internet connection back too. So that’s nice.
