First day of school
Well, it was back to school today. I didn’t know at the beginning that it would be so long. I only had 4 classes today, but for some reason it didn’t hit me that school started today.
The first class was with 8th graders. They are usually a good class, but they were restless today and just distracted very much. I think they were still on summer vacation and didn’t care what was going on other than that. That was very unusual for Ran class.
Then I was leading the 8th grade kiku class. They were just like usual, slow at picking up English. I know that they understand, but they just aren’t very responsive when I ask them questions. It’s hard to teach that kind of class. We just punched through the lesson as best as we could, but it was a bit difficult. I had to have things translated in Japanese very often and that’s something I wanted to try to avoid this semester.
The 4th period class was with 7th grade kiku. They are a smart group of girls, but today they had a bit of a challenge ahead of them. They had to name members of the family in English and Japanese. I think that it was a bit difficult for them because there were so many at one time and I’m not sure that they got this information ahead of this class. I mean, I was looking at it for the first time and I was learning the Japanese word for things like brother in law and father in law. That was difficult and I didn’t know the words for cousin and things like that.
The last class of the day was my beloved 11th grade fuji class. They were a bit difficult at the beginning but once things started going, they did very well. I mean I probably shouldn’t go around the room one by one to get an answer from everyone about their summer vacation. But since I had time to kill, that’s what I did. I didn’t think it was too effective, but then we started to play a game. I started off with how many words do you know that start with… The two letters that I chose were C, and S. I think that S was easier than C because of the amount of words that they had. It was 25 and 41 respectively. They were really into it and that really shocked me because it was something I didn’t expect from them. Then I gave them one last challenge before class was over, I wanted to make them make a sentence using a word from the C list and one from the S list. They were able to make some pretty interesting sentences and I was shocked that they could even do it. It was mainly for the preparation for tomorrow’s game at Gotemba. I want to give them a little inspiration for what they need to do when it really counts, especially since it’s in front of my boss. After this class, I was on a little high since I was shocked at how the day had ended.
But this was only the beginning of my day. There was still much more left. I stayed after school because I wanted to get some more work finished. I wanted to work on editing my schedule for the upcoming semester, but that went bust since I couldn’t get all the information that I needed. That took up about an hour or so.
I wanted to get all the paperwork done for tomorrow too because well we need it done by today. Everything was all ready and set to go and get copied. So, we will have all the handouts for tomorrow’s activity. I missed English club because I really didn’t feel like going. It’s a bit weird, but I’m not feeling really good right now. And it’s not health wise either. It’s just I’m a bit tired of everything. I’m tired of the life that I’m living right now. I’m glad that I took care of my visa because I really don’t feel like doing it now. I’m not sure if it’s just the mood or the hot and humid air that’s talking. I mean it’s freaking humid right now and I’m about to die because of it. It’s not really that hot either, just very humid. I’m not sure, but this feeling is a bit strange.
When I went home, I ran into a friend of mine at Yokohama station. It was MKro from the SDY group of 2001. It was cool to run into her even though she thought I was some strange person at first because she didn’t know anyone who wears a suit, but now she does.
I had dinner at Bamiyan and ate fried rice before I have to suffer through the Gotemba food at the public facilities. I came home and started packing for tomorrow. I didn’t end up finishing till around 11:30pm, which is a bad time to finish because I have to get up at 4:30am tomorrow. That’s really not good since I have to be at work tomorrow at 7am to get ready to leave for this trip. So I’m going to get some shut eye right now. Laters.
I wasn’t having a very good day today, but actually I did. That was the weird part of it.
