The Merchant of Venice
Today the plan is to go see a movie since the first of every month is movie day and all the fare prices are at a discount of $10… I know probably not much of a discount if you’re in the U.S. but it’s about a 50% discount here. It’s a bit sad to be honest with you. But I’m really looking forward to it. I was searching for a good movie that is playing, but really couldn’t find any until I read the review for this movie on the Japan Times website. I’m interested in it because it’s a Shakespeare movie, so it should be good. I’m going to be watching it with a co-worker of mine and possibly have dinner at her house with her husband. I’m most likely going to talk to her about asking for a raise and if she thinks it’s a good idea. She’s one of my closest friends at work and I think I’m at the point where I can trust her.
It should be fun and I’m looking forward to it. I’ll let you know what I think later when I update this tonight. I’m really far behind with updating my Xanga and blogspot… I hope to get back to work on that soon since I’m about 3 months behind and still stuck on my Thailand trip update, when I’m about to go on my Taiwan trip later this month.
The movie was good, and I really enjoyed it. The movie theater company was a bit weird. The way that they set up the entrance was weird. It was airport style where they would call numbers so people could go in. Usually in Japan they already have seats reserved for you. But I guess that the movie must have been in high demand or something. It’s in one theater for the whole Kanto area, or at least that I’ve found out. I’m glad that my friend also enjoyed the movie. It was nice to see the movie with her. Afterwards was a bit awkward though. She needed to call her husband who was only then getting off of work. She was talking to me a bit about her marriage and what she thought of it. It didn’t sound like it was very good and I’m a bit worried that something might happen between them. It’s really awkward because I work with both of them, so I know exactly what she’s talking about. I’m really a bit confused because I don’t know what to tell her. I’m not a marriage counselor and haven’t been in that situation before, so I talk about it a little bit and then feed into another topic so we don’t have to talk about it, but it sounds like I’m talking about her problem and that it’s going to be better. But I’m not sure if it will be better for her. I know that our boss doesn’t like her and that there’s a lot of pressure for her to be a good teacher, but they just don’t like her because she’s married, which makes it difficult because her husband is also in the teacher’s room. She confided with me a secret that I won’t reveal now either, but it took me by surprise that she would bring it up to me at that time too. I didn’t really know what to do or what to say, but I kind of brushed it off and moved on. Gosh, it’s very …. I don’t know difficult. All that I know and all that I stand for is in question and I’m not sure what I’m going to do about it either…
Anyways, I got dinner at a Chinese food place next to Jonathons at Sakuragicho station and it was good. I’m glad that I finally got some food into my body. I was all hungry during the movie and my stomach was making loud noises. It was a bit embarrassing too… I’m not sure if anyone heard, but I’m thinking that a lot of people had heard it since it was during the quiet part of the movie; a movie that I do recommend if you like Shakespeare. It’s in old English so it will take a bit of time to get used to if you’re not used to that kind of English. I also heard some news about CP’s replacement. It might be a guy from England so I have heads-up news about that. We aren’t sure if he’s going to be working at my school, but we’ve heard news that he might. He’s calling the school and asking to talk to the English department chair, so that’s why we figure that he might come to fill in.
I bought Batman Begins on DVD today too. I got a 10% discount, but it was still like $35 for the 2-disc edition. I hope it’s really good and I’m really looking forward to watching it. It’s the first time that I paid so much for a DVD, but I think it’s worth it. Actually I think it’s the first time that I’ve paid full price for a DVD in Japan. I usually get them about $10 since I know a place to get them.
