A pretty easy day

It was pretty easy today.

The first class was an oral test for the 11th grade yuri. We didn’t finish though. It was the first time that we didn’t finish a test. There are just too many students in the class to be able to finish in the allotted time. We even went over time and there’s still like 7 girls left to give their speech. They were good and had to memorize a lot. I give them props for that.

Second period was with 8th grade yuri. They are a pretty high level class too. They didn’t have a Japanese English teacher today, so me and CP just did it by ourselves. They only needed to give their speeches, so it wasn’t a big deal. We just helped them out with that.

Third period, I think CP wasn’t happy. They weren’t very active in the participation department. I’m not sure they understood what was going on, since they were really really quiet. It’s very eerie to be teaching this class. You’d think that they are paying attention, but you could tell that thinking wasn’t one of their specialties. They are just sitting there and it’s hard to tell if they understand, or if they don’t. They don’t really work at trying to figure things out, but more or less wait for us to give them the answers. I think the fundamental difference of the way that these students are educated is through lecture and they are only fed information that they need to learn to spit back out. I think that’s why they aren’t able to speak well.

Fifth period, we were working with U.S. currency. I had brought some of my money to class to share with the students, what they look like and so they could see the difference from Japanese money and the American bills. They needed to work with it and just examine it. They looked at it to examine some things about it.

Sixth period with 9th grade fuji, had the same activity, but they weren’t as into it as the last class. I’m not sure why, but I’m thinking that their getting lazy and it’s really starting to affect their performance. They took a long time to get started, and it’s usually only one or two students participating and everyone is just quiet, but today they weren’t quiet and just talking. They were chattering a lot and it was very distracting for me. So I stopped and waited to get their attention. I think it worked, but they need to improve on that a little bit more.

I stayed till 6pm and then I left for home. I didn’t have club today and just waited around to show my pictures to a teacher who wanted to see them.
