Ytka Birthday

I sent him an e-mail to say happy birthday, but he must have changed his phone number or something. So I couldn’t get a message to him through the cell. I tried calling too, but that didn’t work out either. So I think that I’ll send him a message through a website or something just to get the message across to him.

I had only 4 classes today and we just did the things that we’ve been doing in other classes all day. That’s usually how it goes on Tuesday since it’s with 8th graders for most of the day.

The first class was 8th grade ran. There were parents in the back of the room since it was an open school day. That made it a bit weird for me, but CP took it in stride. They weren’t on their best behavior today, but they weren’t all bad either. We wanted to impress the parents who were there to see what’s going on with the classes. They did a good job in front of them, but since they are at a high level, they tend to get bored easily and don’t interact with the teacher so much as they do with themselves.

The next class was 8th grade kiku. There weren’t any parents in this class, so we could do the questions and answers game easily. It gave them a chance to get up and speak in English, which they all did and did well too. They were a bit more reserved than usual though and it took me awhile before I could get them to speak up. They did well with answering the questions too, so I’m happy about that. This was all in preparation for English Fun Fair that will happen this weekend.

The 3rd class today was with 7th grade kiku. They actually had the same activities as the other classes today, but at an easier level. They needed to go around the room asking questions and answering each other. They needed to ask about the Nationalities and where they are from. They each got a flag representing a different part of the world, so that they wouldn’t be surprised when they meet people from all over the world at the English Fun Fair. They did a good job and it was fun walking around. I’ve noticed that some of the students don’t talk to other students and they pick on each other a lot.

The last class of the day was 11th grade fuji. I started talking about the On Air printout with them. I wanted to bring it up the next topic. I think they have plenty of time to learn it since it’s still far away, but it is important to know. I wanted to get them thinking in English, so I modeled it last week. The topic will be Going Abroad, so they need to start thinking about places around the world and things that they want to see and experience. It’s a fun topic and it’s always best to save for the last topic of Oral Communication.

I got to go home early today, which was a bit of a surprise. I had finished all my work and walked with another teacher to the station. It was a nice walk to the station and I got to talk to them about something rather other teachers that we had noticed spent more time with each other recently. That’s always interesting since we don’t have a water cooler in the office; we have to go to other extremes to get the gossip out.
