I got to sleep in today

I got an extra hour worth of sleep since I started work later.

The first class was with 8th grade ran and they were really great today. We had a substitute teacher since the other teacher was absent. They were just working on their speeches for the speech contest in March. We introduced to them an introduction and a closing. They needed to choose one that they would want to use and then they wrote it down. I don’t personally feel that it was very constructive since they already had introductions and conclusions and they just had to rewrite their speeches. They speeches at this point were already typed out and ready to be printed and bound onto a book.

We did the same thing with 8th grade kiku, but they were louder than usual. They were into it, but just loud for some reason. They liked the fact that it was their speech, but they got a little out of control. They couldn’t understand what I was trying to teach them about the introduction and I lost it, so I had to get some help from the Japanese English teacher. It worked out, but they were a bit annoyed that they had to rewrite their whole speech over again.

Fourth period was with 7th grade kiku. They started something new today, but on the same topic. They got another worksheet with blank spots for the name of the animal. They needed to fill in the blank letters and then they needed to match the vocabulary word with the picture. After they had finished that, we moved onto a little “Snap” game. CP would call something out and they would have to find the corresponding card and pick it up. It was fun, but a little too loud that we got complaints from another teacher.

The last class today was with 11th grade fuji who had to give their speeches for their final exam. They did ok, but much better than last time and they have improved a lot. They aren’t very great speakers, but they did try and it worked for the most part. I was a bit strict on some people though. They did very well on the listening comprehension part because they didn’t do a good job preparing for the speech.

We had English club after school and we played crazy 8s with some vocabulary cards. There were only 2 students in club today. It was fun and I think that they enjoyed it very much. They won, like usual. They are very bright young ladies, so that’s good for them.

After that I learned that there was a problem with the speeches that I had made. The problem was that they were believed to be erased or inaccessible. It dated back to before winter vacation, so I would have to start over from scratch, if I couldn’t find a way to recover the information. From what I found out when I got home, it was a problem with the format of Mac vs. Microsoft. I’ll just have to find a compatible computer to fix it.
