A full day

I have to teach 6 classes today and have a lot of work after school to do too.

The first class today was with 7th grade fuji. There were nine people absent today. We did a winter story which was by CP’s friend Verena. The students listened to the story and had to fill out a worksheet. They were able to do it and do it well. They had two worksheets. They finished the first one which is multiple-choice was pretty easy for them and the second one was a little interview about neighbors. They didn’t finish the second one though. They needed to do that for homework.

The second class was with 11th grade kiku. I gave out all the questions for them to work on and they had the rest of the period to work on their speeches. They understood pretty well and didn’t have any trouble filling everything out and on all of the other questions. Most were even finished before class was over.

The third class today was with 7th grade ran and we worked on the same thing as this morning. They listened to the story about Verena and about winter. We went over a few things and then they got the worksheets. They finished the first and didn’t have much time to finish the second one. We were running a bit behind with more of an explanation. They also had trouble understanding what gingerbread was.

The fourth period class was with 9th grade ran. We worked on a body parts paper and the illness paper. They struggled with both and couldn’t get many answers correct. They were still talking a lot today, but were really working on the worksheets. Giving them something to do and to work on is good. They do the work, but they like to talk too. We need more physical activities for them to do rather than the lecture approach.

In fifth period we covered the topic of environment again with 10th grade yuri. We introduced pictures and if the thing in the picture was good or bad for the environment. Then they got a partner-work activity. Then we moved on with a quiz on the environment. They were very into the environmental issue and really liked what we were talking about. I have to be careful of how I present things and my choice of words. They sounded a little disappointed when they heard that they have a presentation, which they won’t.

The last class today was with 9th grade kiku. We worked on two worksheets today. That was the only thing that we did today. One of them was on body parts, which was easy for them. The harder one for the 9th grade students is the one on illnesses. Most of them had trouble with wrist, chilly, dizzy, fuzzy, cough. We didn’t touch the school trip book at all, so they missed out on a few things necessary for the school trip to America.

I ended up being at work for 12 hours today. That’s quite a lot especially since I had a full day of classes. Hopefully this won’t become usual.
