Hump Day

I didn’t have my computer today to keep me distracted from getting ready for work, but somehow I still ended up leaving later than I wanted to. This caused me to miss my train and therefore get to work a lot later than I would have wanted. I arrived a few minutes before class started, but it was ok since they were in their homeroom class and their homeroom teacher was late to come out.

We did jeopardy in 11th grade yuri first period. It was much faster to setup than yesterday and we didn’t have any problems with the computer or the projector. We finished the whole thing and even had a few minutes at the end. The scores again were very lopsided and that was bad and I think that it discouraged some of the other students. But they knew it and it was undeniable to not choose them since sometimes they were the only students who had their hands raised. They did very well and it went very smoothly. I think that they enjoyed it.

For second period, we had their speech test. 8th grade yuri will probably win the contest, but they need to work on memorizing a bit more. Some students need to be a little louder so they could be heard. Some have heavy accents and it becomes hard to hear them and that makes it a bit not clear, but overall, they did well.

Third period was with 10th grade fuji. They did a fairly good job with their presentation poster. They won’t have to give a presentation, but they needed to make a poster about what people should and shouldn’t do to help the environment. They didn’t understand what to do at first and were just struggling through it. I didn’t think that it was explained as best as it possibly could have. They weren’t the sharpest tools in the shed either and probably would have benefited from a better explanation. It was even a little unclear for me so I couldn’t really help them out much. I did the best I could to help them out and after half the class, they were able to get things done.

There was a schedule change for today so I would have fifth period with 9th grade fuji. It will be the last time that I teach these girls before they go off to America. It is a bit exciting since it will also be the last time I teach the 9th grade this year. I’m happy and sad at the same time. I hate teaching when I’m being watched in the back with someone who will criticize during class. It’s counterproductive and not beneficial for the students. We plan to work with tip and fast food today. I’m looking forward to not having to do this anymore after this class. At least not until the new year starts in April. I got some menus from In-N-Out burger to show them so that they could be a bit ready before they go. It really is good for them and I think that they will enjoy it, if they pay attention that is.
